Different Types of Accomodations in Sweden

In Sweden all hotels meet high standards, even the inexpensive ones. Country inns, manor houses, vintage sailing ships, old castles or even renovated prisons or an ice hotel are other alternatives. Farms, bed and breakfast or camping are also options.

Hotels
Cities offer international class hotels in all categories: de luxe, first, tourist and budget. Many hotels have special non-smoking rooms, as well as rooms adapted for physically-handicapped visitors or those suffering from allergies.

Youth and family hostels (vandrarhem)
Sweden's youth and family hostels, known as "vandrarhem", range from manor houses, farms and former prisons to modern buildings and renovated sailing ships. All offer excellent facilities for an inexpensive holiday.

Camping
Sweden has a tremendous variety of more than 700 attractive camping sites in picturesque surroundings, often on a lakeside or by the sea. About 300 sites remain open in the winter.

Apartments and room rentals
Private apartments or rooms can often be rented through local tourist information offices.

Bed and breakfast
Bed and breakfast accommodation is becoming very popular in Sweden and is available throughout the country.

Farmhouse holidays
Many working farms with livestock or produce, each one unique, offer accommodation by the week.

Chalets and holiday villages
Staying at chalets is one of the most popular types of holiday accommodation in Sweden. Self-sufficient apartment complexes are often located by the sea or a lake, in the mountains or near recreational areas.

Castles and manor houses
Sweden has many well preserved castles, some dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. In the province of Skåne alone, there are 200. Some owners have opened their parks and gardens for visitors to enjoy, but some are also hotels, while others even boast their own ghosts! Manor houses are substantially less expensive than city hotels and certainly more quaint, situated in beautiful countryside locations and with Swedish character and charm.

Spas and health resorts
There are several spas and health resorts in Sweden. The spas are open all year and offer saunas, Swedish massage, body and beauty treatments, nutritious diets, exercise and soothing herbal baths.
